New Jersey Boating Certification Practice Test

The correct answer is that it is legal to tow a person on water skis from sunrise to sunset. This regulation is primarily established for safety reasons. Boating visibility is significantly better during daylight hours, which helps to ensure that both the person being towed and the boat operator can see and react to obstacles, other vessels, and any potential dangers in the water.

Towing someone after dark can pose a considerable risk due to reduced visibility. Many states, including New Jersey, have specific laws in place to prohibit such activities during nighttime to enhance safety for all water users.

While towing may be permissible at any time during daylight, options like only allowing towing after sunset or having restrictions based on weekends would not be aligned with the safety protocols emphasized in boating regulations. These alternative choices do not adequately address the safety risks associated with reduced visibility during nighttime hours.
